The best way to keep your eyes healthy is to know how to care for them.

One common question for our staff is regarding flashes or floaters in your vision. All patients who experience a recent onset of flashes and/or floaters (PVD) should be examined with frequency. In most cases, nothing unusual is found; the light flashes eventually go away and the annoying floaters diminsh and become less bothersome with time. We do reccommend evaluation however. A tear in the retina is found in approximately 10% of the eyes with a PVD (Posterior Vitreous Detachment). If left untreated, tears may lead to a retinal detachment, a serious sight threatening condition.
